First Blog Post

So, here I am at Hofstra, and I am blogging from the campus library, full of caffeine and hope for this website. I want to transform my blog into an outlet of ideas, expression, and creativity. Writing online makes me feel vulnerable and open, because anyone across the world can view this. I don’t know exactly who my writing will reach, but I am confident that I can entrust my thoughts and ideas onto any reader who falls upon this page. I am so excited to start writing because I find writing to be so self-reflecting and therapeutic. Saying words out loud is hard to express eloquently, but writing gives you a chance to sit down, think, and then speak.

I’m definitely inexperienced when it comes to writing, but I am very eager to learn and improve my writing. If I had to reflect on what I can fix about my writing, I would say I need to work on being more concise and clear about my writing. I tend to write very complicated, run-on sentences that alienate the reader from what I’m really trying to say. However, I find that a strength to my writing is that I write descriptively with detailed analysis, which can be helpful in essays. In this writing class I am taking for Honors here at Hofstra, I definitely want to learn how to fix these mistakes and improve on my strengths.

I don’t know much about what direction this blog will take, but I am very eager to find out side-by-side with my readers. I feel like I write slow, since I am so nit-picky with grammar and punctuation and find it hard to let loose with my thoughts, but the process so far is pretty reflective. Writing about how I write is definitely making me evaluate how I think of myself as a writer and what direction I want my writing to take. This process right now is forcing me to remember how I used to do on writing assignments, how I feel about writing now, and how I want to improve as a writer. I am nervous for the future, but very excited to see what happens.
